Today in the Chicago Tribune, an article about luxury Chicago apartments’ current trend of downsizing in space while upgrading in finishes and amenities featured input from Luxury Living Chicago’s Managing Broker, Aaron Galvin.

Renters quoted in the article agreed with Galvin, who said, “”Renters are OK with small because they are getting so much in amenities such as pools, outdoor kitchens, larger fitness centers and bigger business centers. You give a little (in space) to get a lot more in amenities and (high-end) finishes.”

Many newer properties are opting for more studio, convertible, and smaller one-bedroom units. Buildings featured in the article included: OneEleven, K2, 73 East Lake, and Catalyst, all of which opened in the last year and had immediate success with their studio and convertible units. The rise of the convertible-style unit was noted by Galvin, when he described convertibles as units that “are bigger than a studio, and there is a distinct separation between the living space and the sleeping area, whether it is by a sliding door, an L-shaped footprint or a three-quarters wall.”
