As the inventory of luxury Chicago apartments continues to grow, developers are seeking new ways to stand out. Usually, this is evident in the wide variety and extensive amount of amenities offered to renters. In addition to the fitness center and pool, renters searching for dog-friendly Chicago apartments will be happy to find a robust offering of pet amenities is now included in the amenity package.
In Chicago’s temperamental weather, many pet owners value not having to walk far or stand outside for a long time while they wait for Fido to do his business. The Chicago Tribune recently sat down with Luxury Living Chicago’s managing partner, Amy Galvin, to discuss why renters are passionately placing their dog’s needs at the top of their apartment search list.
If dog-friendly apartments are a top priority in the search for a new home, we’ve rounded up a few Chicago apartments with the best dog amenities:
After a long walk with your pup through the beautiful neighborhood of Lincoln Park, residents can scrub their pups clean with a dog wash station. When the weather is permitting a neighborhood walk, Norweta also has an indoor dog run and relief area.
Pets are pampered at Wolf Point East with on-site dog washes and grooming areas, a dog run and dog-friendly terrace with lake views, and immediate access to scenic dog walks.
While AMLI River North’s gorgeous pool deck is closed during the winter, pet owners still have full access to the large outdoor dog run. The turf is completed with an encouraging mini fire hydrant.
MILA raised the bar with their dog run. Although it’s placed on one end of their Urban Deck, with BBQ grills, fire pit, outdoor TVs, and bar, pet owners have a separate exit from the elevators. Down that hallway, they can use the dog wash facilities or simply wait inside while Fido stretches his legs on the doggie agility course.
Tucked back away from the noise of LaSalle Street, Chestnut Tower’s private dog park is a big bonus for residents. The large, green space feels much more like a park than a dog run and even offers a few benches.
Wolf Point West has multiple amenity floors, including a lower level that connects directly to the Chicago Riverwalk. That floor’s focal point is definitely the indoor/outdoor dog run. Residents of these River North apartments don’t have to step foot outside or even put a jacket on, as the indoor dog run area has multiple screened windows and fans pushing the air outside. There is also a very nice adjoining lounge, where dog owners can relax or watch TV.
However, for the Chicago renter who is not a big fan of being surrounded by dogs, Amy Galvin noted to the Chicago Tribune that plenty is being done by developers to ease worries about living around other people’s pets.
“Addressing concerns about noise, smells and waste are key for buildings attracting residents. We definitely get clients who are saying, ‘How many dogs are in this building? I don’t like dogs.” Some buildings utilize PooPrints, a company that analyzes DNA in animal droppings. By requiring a DNA sample from pet owners, the buildings can track the culprit. To know the buildings are cracking down on that behavior is helpful,” Galvin said.
