One of the first questions you need to ask yourself when looking for an apartment is “what size apartment am I looking for?”. You may or may not have noticed that Chicago’s terminology can be different from other cities. In Chicago, floor plan types include studio, convertible, junior one-bedroom, one-bedroom, and one-bedroom plus den. So what’s the difference between a one-bedroom and one-bedroom plus den? Or a junior one-bedroom and a standard one-bedroom? What qualifies as a den?
Each property can also define the floorplans a little differently. Fortunately, the Luxury Living Chicago team is here to help and walk you through various layouts and styles. There are some basic guidelines to remember and use when considering which floor plan works best for your lifestyle.
Standard one-bedrooms in Chicago range from 650-800 square feet. Most one-bedroom floor plans in Chicago feature an open kitchen and living space. Some also include a large kitchen island for seating, large master bathroom, or even a balcony. Luxury Living can help you find the one-bedroom of your dreams!
If you need a little more space, a one-bedroom plus den floor plan is a great solution. It is nice to have additional separated space for guests or dining. A den is a small space in the apartment where people can have an extra table, office, sitting area, or a reading nook. The main difference between a one-bedroom plus den and a two-bedroom is that the den usually does not have a window, closet, or door. Not all one plus den layouts are created equally. Most dens are not large enough to be used for guest bedrooms. But that’s why two-bedroom floor plans exist.
