Five Reasons to Live in Chicago’s West Town Neighborhood
Chicago’s West Town neighborhood is truly a hidden gem. Located just west of downtown, this delightful area is actually comprised of a few small neighborhoods including Ukrainian Village, East Village, Noble Square and Wicker Park.
While the West Loop, Fulton Market and Logan Square neighborhoods have made headlines for the number of Chicago apartments being built in those areas, our money is on West Town as the next hot spot for Chicago’s renters.
Here is why:
Dining in West Town
Some of the hottest and best restaurants are located in the West Town neighborhood. Right on Chicago Avenue, you’ll find Whisk, a Ron Swanson-themed café, the West Town Bakery, Arami Sushi, authentic Ukrainian cafes and lots of bars, bistros and carry-out joints. Your friends will always want to hang out in your neck of the woods.
Shopping in West Town
There are so many fun shops, boutiques and salons that you’ll find in West Town. Le Thrift, Ad Hoc, Sprout Home Kitchen, Chicago Avenue Salon, Rocky + Luella the list goes on and on. In the summer, the Chicago Avenue shops stay open late every third Friday of the month and offer discounts, specials, food and an atmosphere of fun.
The Chicago Avenue Bus
The fastest way to get downtown for work, or spend a day along Michigan Avenue, is to hop on one of the many buses that run up and down Chicago Avenue that can take you downtown and to the Loop in minutes. It will bring you right back home at the end of the day where you’ll be happy to be out of the hustle and bustle of downtown.
Great Festivals & Community Vibe
During the summer (and even the fall and winter) there are so many fun events that take place in and around the West Town neighborhood including: Do Division Street Fest & Sidewalk Sale, West Fest, Renegade Craft Fair, West Town Art Walk, After Hours on Chicago Avenue, West Town Winterfest and the Wicker Park Farmer’s Market.
Then there is Commercial Park. This cozy neighborhood green space features a children’s playground and frequent community events. The park plays host to movies, art fairs, children’s events and so much more throughout the year.
