New Additions to the West Loop and Fulton Market

Assuming you have taken a look our 2016 Apartment Guide that was released last week, you’ll see that there are quite a few residential buildings coming to Chicago 2016— 21 new apartment buildings and 3400+ new units, to be specific. And quite a few of those developments are happening in the West Loop/Fulton River District/River West neighborhoods.

If you’ve driven up 90/94 over the last six months, you’ve definitely seen two new pioneer developments. The first is at the corner of Lake and Halsted (171 N Halsted), and it’s a beautiful, full-glass building rising to 29 stories. It will feature 227 apartments and offer some of the best skyline views in the city. That is set to open summer 2016. The debate is whether this is technically within the West Loop or Fulton Market District, as it sits on the south side of Lake Street.

The second development is located at the intersection of Grand, Milwaukee and Halsted, at 500 N. Milwaukee, cleverly dubbed Kenect—The K in the logo looks like the intersection. This property will have 227 apartments between two buildings, and will also bring ample retail to the area. This is also slated for a summer 2016 delivery. This property resides in River West and the newest large-scale property since Mondial, which was built in 2009.

A bit further west are two more properties from Michigan Avenue Real Estate Group, known for developing luxury boutique-style residential building with extremely high-end finishes that make West Loop condo owners envious of their neighbors. The first of the two properties is called Jackson Throop Place and will have 93 apartments, and the second is called Madison Throop Place, which will feature 72 residences. The delivery dates are February and March, respectively.

Now the question is, what are all these new residents going to do since there’s hardly anything to eat and drink in that area…

Here’s a list of some of the newly opened or soon-to-be-opened restaurants and bars in the West Loop/Fulton Market District:

  • Swift & Sons — 1000 W Fulton Market (Now Open)
