Chicago residents who choose to live in Streeterville pick this location for a variety of reasons, with proximity to work and Lake Michigan likely two of the most important ones. Living in Streeterville places you walking distance from Michigan Avenue, the Loop’s business district, and Michigan Avenue’s Magnificent Mile. People who work at Northwestern Memorial or Lurie Children’s Hospitals often rent or buy homes in Streeterville for the ability to commute quickly.

Getting Around Streeterville

How do people living in Streeterville get around? There are a variety of CTA bus lines in the neighborhood that run throughout the city. For those looking to get on a L train, the CTA Red Line stops at Grand/State and Chicago will be the closest connection. A unique advantage to driving in Streeterville is access to Lower Wacker Drive and Lower Michigan Avenue, which often have less traffic than their higher counterparts, and connect to the city’s main highways, Lake Shore Drive and 90/94 Expressways. Streeterville is a very walkable neighborhood, filled with many restaurants and conveniences. The one-way streets in the neighborhood can be more biker friendly with designated lanes along Illinois and Grand, plus there are currently 5 Divvy bike rental stations in the neighborhood.

Things To Do in Streeterville

Chicago’s Streeterville neighborhood boasts many attractions, including weekly firework shows at Navy Pier, gourmet grocery stores and downtown’s most popular movie theater and entertainment complex. There’s a wide variety of restaurants and cuisine, from Volare Ristorante Italiano to Gyu-Kaku Japanese BBQ; residents of 500 Lake Shore Drive are only an elevator ride away from brunch with a Kanela Breakfast Club downstairs. Some of the city’s best shopping is along Michigan Avenue, including: Nike, Apple, Zara, Water Tower Place, and 900 North Michigan Shops.With the Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago Children’s Museum, and Chicago Sports Museum, there are endless options for spending a rainy Saturday indoors. Warmer months in Streeterville will undoubtedly include time walking or running along the lakefront path, relaxing in Olive Park, or soaking up the sun at Oak Street Beach.
